In the mood to hang out with these girls? This is a gang who kicks ass and takes NO prisoners!
Well, they BECOME prisoners, but I’m getting ahead of myself:
Let them lead the way into the murky, sordid and altogether entertaining world of international exploitation!
Virgins From Hell! – 1987
Prepare to be schooled by Mondo Macabro’s release of “Virgins From Hell”, because watching this two-disc delight is like taking a class in the history of Indonesian exploitation film. And what a film it is!
Part biker movie, part Women In Prison film, Virgins is a revenge tale about a pack of women united against Mr. Tiger, a mobster who previously killed the biker gang leader’s parents in order to co-opt her family home for his underground narcotics manufacturing plant. Um, OK…
So of course there is violence, women in prison, and mean guards like this one…
Watch “Virgins From Hell” to see girls in colorful latex, Power Ranger-like biker suits and boots writhing in their cave prison, or Mr. Tiger’s disco palace!
C-C-C-CATFIGHT!
Oh, and there are catfights too!
This is one groovy cast…and this film is a whole lotta sleazy fun!
Now, it’s time to head back in time – in order to hang out with a blood-thirsty Countess…
Countess Bathory: “I feel it in my bones, the night is dying…”
Daughters Of Darkness – 1971
A chic couple arrive at an extravagant and deserted seaside hotel after eloping. Stefan is wealthy and happily English, with a hidden streak of sadism, while Valarie is intelligent but of inferior (Swedish) blood.
Of course, they take the time to consummate the marriage before we meet the mysterious Countess…
And mysterious she is: something – shall we say – STRANGE is going on here…
The Countess, you will discover, maintains her eternal beauty in the standard way from the 1700′s – by bathing in the blood of 300 virgins…
So of course, virgin corpses begin showing up about the city drained of their blood. And who is this mysterious “friend” of the Countess?
Needless to say, there is more blood sucking, more bodies, and a fair amount of additional nudity, as the Countess likes to hang out withe THE GIRLS…
So you get some of that too…and then more and more people start dying and well, that’s what makes this a horror film…
This is a classic early 70′s euro-horror film: lots of erotica (ie nudity!) that takes advantage of the relaxed censorship in film at the time, and lots of eerie, moody mayhem…and I love their original poster!
Time For Heroin!
Speaking of moody, let’s head to Amsterdam, to introduce you to young Hanna D – who is about to learn the harsh facts of life:
This ain’t no dental exam! “Hanna D: The Girl From Vondel Park” is a 1984 Italian sexploitation film from director Rino Di Silvestro (director of Werewolf Women) that the DVD box cover suggests was once lost and is now found. And they found an ultra-sleazy exploitation film that includes a shot of a woman shooting up heroin under her tongue!
We first meet Hanna on a train to Amsterdam from…uh, somewhere, where she’s already selling a peep show starring her body to random passengers, with the help of a strange man who subsequently vanishes.
Hanna meets Miguel, a sleazy playboy who wants to sell Hanna as a porn star, but on her way to her first shoot, she meets Axel on the bus, and falls in love with him.
Torn between the two options placed in front of her, she turns to drugs, and eventually descends into addiction…and learns not only to shoot up under her tongue - BUT IN HER EYELID!
OK, you get it – this cautionary tale was meant to be a shocking – yes shocking! – examination of a young woman in a downward spiral of drug addiction…as the movie begins, Hanna looks so innocent:
And by the end….well, not so much:
These films were designed to shock the audience – supposedly a cautionary tale, but one that revels in the sleaziness of the journey to redemption…
Euro-sleaze was a category of film in the 70′s and 80′s that shocked mainstream US audiences – and made a huge impact on the film industry…
This movie LOVES to drag you into Hanna’s drug-addicted world…but that was a good grindhouse movie is supposed to do, isn’t it?
